Nervous System Regulation and the Vagus Nerve

What is the regulation of the nervous system?

When we talk about regulating the nervous system, we are actually referring to the REGULATION OF THE AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM. The autonomic nervous system is one of the systems responsible for positive and negative stress responses, connecting the mind to the body. It is composed of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, which have complementary effects on bodily systems. Based on commands from the central nervous system, the autonomic nervous system controls the body's functions.

When the autonomic nervous system is balanced, the body functions well and bodily systems work in harmony. However, when there is an imbalance in the autonomic nervous system, the body begins to become unbalanced, so that some bodily systems become overloaded and others have diminished function.

What is the importance of the vagus nerve?

The vagus nerve is one of the main nerves of the parasympathetic nervous system and, being extremely branched, reaches many organs and body systems. It has both efferent fibers (which go from the brain to the body, controlling body systems) and sensory fibers (which go from the body to the brain, informing the brain of the body's internal state) and connects the central nervous system to the body, communicating body and mind.

The vagus nerve has a basal activity that we call "vagal tone," and this tone becomes altered when there is dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system, generating various physical and mental health problems. Fortunately, the vagus nerve can be influenced by several therapeutic techniques in order to regulate the autonomic nervous system as a whole.

Nervous System Regulation Therapy and Vagus Nerve Treatment using the Integrative Neuroscience Bridge Method®:

Dr. Cassandra works magic... After years of feeling drained and unrecognized, I'm starting to feel like myself again.

I find therapy very interesting. I've done many types of talk therapy, but I always felt like they weren't reaching the body. It seemed like something was stuck in my body, and I'm starting to reach and work through that.

What's essential and helps me a lot is knowing that I have techniques to support me. I feel safe and calm knowing I have tools to help me. This gives me the courage to face challenges and gradually return to life.

My experience in therapy has been very good. I'm using regulation exercises/practices. It helps me a lot during times when my symptoms are more pronounced.

I know that 90% of the work is about doing and maintaining consistency. But finding you on this journey has been wonderful. Because you help me so much! I can only thank God .

All my therapy with Dr. Cassandra has been very beneficial and is helping me grow as a person and control my emotions.

Enough of living overwhelmed!

In modern life, people value overload. As if working too much, giving too much to family, and doing too many things were good. The few moments we have for ourselves feel "selfish." In moments when we should be relaxing, a voice in the back of our heads thinks, "I should be doing something." Self-care has become a luxury, and as a result, physical and mental health has gone down the drain.

The worst part is that we develop symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, and depression, and we think it's "just part of life." We "take a little pill" to try and solve the problem magically, but in reality, we're just sweeping it under the rug. But you can't live like that in the long run! The body and mind have their limits. DON'T WAIT FOR YOUR HEALTH TO COMPLETELY FAIL, SEEK TREATMENT NOW!

You won't regret taking care of yourself!

But when you start to find it impossible to do everything you do today,

DCL Professional Profile 2026.png

Nice to meet you, I'm Cassandra Lyra. I'm a physiotherapist graduated from USP and hold a PhD in psychology and molecular neuroscience. I specialize in behavioral neuroscience, integrative therapies, and psychophysical disorders.

I am a person who is very close to my family and friends and who loves to study and practice activities such as yoga, cycling and dancing, things that have always helped me a lot to maintain good physical and mental health in the face of life's challenges.

I strongly believe in the power of knowledge and practice combined, which is why my treatments address both practice and a touch of theory (understanding what happens in your body and mind is essential for the evolution of your condition). Having personally experienced anxiety disorder, depression, and panic attacks, with significant somatization, I understand very well what my patients go through and what is necessary to overcome psychophysical disorders.

Come with me to take care of your health and learn to live a lighter life, with more quality of life and well-being! Nervous System Regulation is an important part of the Integrative Neuroscience Bridge Method®, my holistic treatment method.
